10th Grade Announcements Energy Solutions Foundation ScholarshipThe Energy Solutions Foundation Math, Science, and Engineering Scholarship is awarded to one 10th grade student at each eligible high school. The Scholarship is available to 10th grade students who plan on pursuing degrees in the fields of math, science, or engineering. Scholarship applications are currently being accepted and must be submitted by February 3, 2010. PSAT Scores ReturnedPSAT results from the October testing were returned in advisory group on 12/15. Students who did not pick up their results should check in the guidance office. Access codes to the CollegeQuickStart Program on the Collegeboard website are in the upper right hand corner of the results sheet. 2010 Governor's SchoolsBright and talented 10th and 11th graders who would like to enhance their credentials for college need to check out the 2010 Governor's Schools. There are 12 areas and they meet at various college campuses across the state. These opportunities are free to qualified students. Go to www.tn.gov/education/govschools for further information, applications, and deadlines.
PLAN TestAll 10th graders will be taking the PLAN test on Oct. 6th. As a "pre-ACT" test, the PLAN is a powerful predictor of success on the ACT. The PLAN is a 4-part timed test which gives students an estimated ACT score range. It has English, Math, Reading, and Science sections, much like the ACT. There is no charge to the students for the test. Students may find sample PLAN questions on the ACT website, www.actstudent.org/plan/tests/index.html Students will be assigned to a testing location prior to the test date.

Companies that offer scholarship searches may charge large fees, so consider all of your options before you act. As one of the options after high school, the military can be an opportunity to learn a skill, develop a career, become more independent, and earn and save money to pay for college. All branches of the military, including reserve and national guard branches, offer excellent educational tuition assistance programs. These programs should be considered as financial aid opportunities for individuals who are interested in serving our country and for whom attending college is also a goal. |
